Build the School Cambodia – A Transformative Journey
Build the School Cambodia project begins with the groundbreaking ceremony in Prekyang village, supported by Lions Club of Ampang and the Ministry of National Defense.
We are proud to announce the beginning of a transformative journey for the children of Prekyang village. Thanks to the generosity of our partners and friends, we have secured the funds to begin construction of a new school building with five classrooms—a milestone that marks the start of a brighter future for more than 200 children.
This achievement was made possible through the tireless fundraising efforts of the current and former presidents of the Lions Club of Ampang, Malaysia, whose leadership and dedication provided the major support needed to launch this project. We extend our deepest gratitude to them for standing with us in this mission.
In addition, the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia has committed USD 15,000 as initial funding to trigger the first phase of construction. On March 20, 2026, we celebrated the official Groundbreaking Ceremony, a moment of unity and hope for the community, supported by traditional rites and local participation.
Construction is now underway—the foundation and posts are complete, and walls are rising step by step. Each stage brings us closer to opening doors of opportunity for children who deserve safe, inspiring spaces to learn and grow.
Looking Back: SSF’s Educational Support Before the School
In Cambodia’s rural heartlands, where opportunity is often outpaced by poverty, education is more than a right—it’s a lifeline. At the Sao Sary Foundation (SSF), we believe that every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and dream beyond the boundaries of their circumstances. That belief has guided our work since 2006, and in 2024, it took on new momentum.
Through our Educational Support Program, we delivered life-changing resources to some of Cambodia’s most underserved students. With the help of partners and donors, SSF provided:
- 339 School Uniforms (three sets per student) – giving children dignity and belonging.
- 113 Bicycles for rural students – ensuring safe and reliable access to school.
- 113 Schoolbags with complete stationery sets – empowering students to learn with pride.
- 2 Laptops and 1 Printer for school administration – strengthening school management and sustainability.
These initiatives reduced barriers to education, improved attendance, and gave children the confidence to pursue their studies. As one young student shared: “Now I feel proud to go to school every day. I don’t have to worry about wearing the same dirty clothes.”
For many years, SSF has also provided scholarships, basic learning materials, and community-based educational support to children who otherwise had limited access to schooling. These efforts helped keep children in classrooms, encouraged literacy, and gave families hope that education could break the cycle of poverty.
The Road Ahead: Building a Standard School
Yet, our journey is only beginning. As outlined in the 5-Year Campus Master Plan, the vision for Prekyang Primary School goes beyond classrooms. It includes:
- Clean energy systems (solar, wind, and battery off-grid)
- A Digital Tech Lab for modern learning
- A Buddhism Library and Museum to preserve local heritage
- Safe recreation areas with standardized playground equipment
- Teacher housing and long-term sustainability projects
The total strategic investment required to meet minimum national standards is USD 217,000 over five years.
While the core construction fund is secured, we must continue fundraising to ensure the school is not only built, but built to last—meeting standards of safety, quality, and sustainability.
