Build the School Cambodia – Building the Future
The Build the School Cambodia project has officially begun with a groundbreaking ceremony at Prekyang Primary School. This milestone marks the start of a transformative journey for more than 200 children in Prekyang village, supported by the Lions Club of Ampang, Malaysia and the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia.
Thanks to the generosity of our partners and friends, construction of a new five-classroom school building is now underway. This achievement represents hope, opportunity, and a brighter future for children who deserve safe, inspiring spaces to learn and grow.
Build the School Cambodia – Gratitude to Our Partners
This progress was made possible through the tireless fundraising efforts of the current and former presidents of the Lions Club of Ampang, Malaysia, whose leadership provided the major support needed to launch the project. We extend our deepest gratitude to them for standing with us in this mission.
Additionally, the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia contributed USD 15,000 as initial funding to trigger the first phase of construction. On March 20, 2026, the official Groundbreaking Ceremony was celebrated with traditional rites and strong community participation—a moment of unity and hope.
Build the School Cambodia – Construction Progress
The foundation and posts are complete, and walls are rising step by step. Each stage brings us closer to opening doors of opportunity for children in Prekyang village. The construction site has become a symbol of determination, where families, teachers, and local leaders gather to witness progress. Every brick laid is a promise of opportunity, and every wall rising is a step toward breaking the cycle of poverty through education.
Build the School Cambodia – Looking Back at SSF’s Educational Support
Before this school project, the Sao Sary Foundation (SSF) worked tirelessly to reduce barriers to education in Cambodia’s rural heartlands. Through the Educational Support Program (2024), SSF delivered:
- 🎒 339 School Uniforms (three sets per student) – dignity and belonging
- 🚲 113 Bicycles – safe and reliable access to school
- ✏️ 113 Schoolbags with stationery sets – empowering students to learn with pride
- 💻 2 Laptops and 1 Printer – strengthening school administration
These initiatives improved attendance, boosted confidence, and gave children the tools to succeed. As one student shared: “Now I feel proud to go to school every day. I don’t have to worry about wearing the same dirty clothes.”
For many years, SSF has also provided scholarships, basic learning materials, and community-based educational support to children who otherwise had limited access to schooling. These efforts encouraged literacy, kept children in classrooms, and gave families hope that education could break the cycle of poverty.
Build the School Cambodia – The Road Ahead
The vision for Prekyang Primary School goes beyond classrooms. The Build the School Cambodia project includes:
- Clean energy systems (solar, wind, battery off-grid)
- A Digital Tech Lab for modern learning
- A Buddhism Library and Museum to preserve heritage
- Safe recreation areas with standardized playground equipment
- Teacher housing and sustainability projects
The total investment required to meet minimum national standards is USD 217,000 over five years. This plan ensures that the school will not only serve immediate needs but also stand as a model of sustainability, innovation, and cultural preservation.
Why Build the School Cambodia Matters
Education in rural Cambodia is more than a right—it is a lifeline. For children in Prekyang village, a safe and modern school means access to knowledge, dignity, and opportunity.
